For the sixth consecutive year, grocery chain New Seasons Market is bringing Bristol Bay Sockeye and commercial fishermen into its Oregon stores. New Seasons will share Bristol Bay Sockeye samples with shoppers along with information about Bristol Bay’s fishery and the proposed Pebble Mine.
All 12 New Seasons Market locations will serve free salmon samples from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday (September 21 and 22). New Seasons will also feature Bristol Bay Sockeye for sale in the seafood cases from September 19 – 25, so salmon lovers in the Portland-metro area can savor Bristol Bay in their own kitchens.
New Seasons Market was one of the first retailers and businesses to become involved in the national campaign to Save Bristol Bay. Over the last six years, New Seasons Market has helped gather thousands of signatures and letters to elected officials, traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with congressmen, and voted with their dollars for Bristol Bay by selling tens of thousands pounds of beautiful Bristol Bay Sockeye. They have also expressed concerns about the threats the proposed Pebble Mine poses to Bristol Bay’s salmon fishery. You can read the most recent piece by New Seasons Market’s Seafood and Meat Manager, Alan Hummel, here in the Portland Business Journal.
If you’re in the Portland area this weekend, then swing by your nearest New Seasons Market to meet some fishermen and enjoy some Bristol Bay Sockeye.
